More people died in Marin from drug overdoses than of breast cancer or automobile crashes in 2012, and the majority of overdoses involved prescription drugs. One in four Marin adults needs help for drug and alcohol misuse and mental health problems. More alarming is that increasing numbers of children under the age of 18 are following suit, with easy access to prescription narcotics in their homes or from peers in schools. RxSafe Marin is a grassroots community initiative that addresses the escalating drug overdose deaths and treatment admissions for prescription drug addiction in Marin County.
