MarinHealth Medical Center (formerly Marin General Hospital) has joined a statewide movement to initiate treatment in the emergency department for people identified with opioid use disorder One of the most important predictors of overdose death is a prior non-fatal overdose. Initiating treatment in the ED, with follow up through community-based providers, is proven to reduce subsequent overdose events, deaths and other opioid-related harms. This initiative, combined with ongoing outreach to overdose victims identified through 911 data, will contribute to the RxSafe Marin goal of increasing access to addiction treatment and saving lives
